Our first community improvement project tackled illegal dumping and accumulated litter along Poway Creek Trail behind Creekside Plaza shopping center and the AMC Poway 10 theater.
The creek corridor behind the AMC Poway 10 theater was littered with fast food containers, plastic bags, bottles, and clothing tangled in brush. A shopping cart and stripped bicycle had been dumped directly on the trail. Debris lined fence lines and creek banks, polluting the waterway and degrading the neighborhood that Poway residents walk, jog, and bike through every day.
A 5-person crew equipped with grabber tools, work gloves, snake gaiters, and 42-gallon contractor bags worked along the creek corridor — pulling debris from brush, bagging litter, and removing bulky dumped items including a shopping cart, bicycle frame, and suitcase. Rattlesnake season safety protocols were followed throughout, with all crew members wearing snake gaiters in the brush.
Eight bags of trash removed. Shopping cart, bicycle frame, and suitcase hauled out and disposed of properly. The trail corridor is clean and the creek bank is free of debris — restoring a space that hundreds of Poway residents use daily. All waste was disposed via the EDCO dumpster at the adjacent shopping center.
This project covers the full Poway Creek Trail corridor from Creekside Plaza to Soule Street. Segment 1 is complete. Four segments remain, each ready to go as funding allows.
Four segments of Poway Creek Trail still need cleaning, and we have projects across San Diego County ready to launch. Your donation funds the next crew, the next cleanup, the next community impact.
